SPOT

The Piton des Neiges

A magical hike on the roof of Réunion

The Piton des Neiges is the highest peak in the Indian Ocean (3071 meters above sea level). Asleep for 120 century, this volcano is said to be at the origin of the creation of two-thirds of the island. Despite its name, Piton des Neiges has no eternal snow or glaciers. It is one of the most popular hiking objectives on the island, in the heart of a wild and preserved nature. At the top, the view is breathtaking over the three circuses of Réunion, Mafate, Salazie and Cilaos, as well as the turquoise ocean that merges on the horizon with the sky.

Important information

Technical Level/Physical Intensity ****

The intensity of the program is very high and excellent physical fitness is required.
...
Evaluation: you train regularly and you are used to maintaining sustained efforts for several hours: you run 10 km in less than 45 min. You train 3 or 4 times a week.
You are able to run 4 hours without stopping. You have already run marathons or medium distance trails (30-45 km).

A sporty trek taking place on trails in varied terrain: high-altitude tropical forests, lava desert, cultivated areas near mountain villages.

Effort sometimes intense due to the significant differences in altitude and the stiffness of the trails, but no particular technical difficulty. However, it should be noted that after a rainy period some passages remain wet and slippery for a long time, (in particular the Le Piton - Bélouve stage and the descent through the Happy Valley).

Important! For the success of the internship, for everyone to fully benefit from it as well as for safety reasons, it is necessary that you have the required levels. If this is not the case, our management may, if necessary, refuse that you follow the program. It will not necessarily be possible to offer you a replacement program and we will not be able to reimburse you for your internship. Don't overestimate yourself!!!

Given the intensity of this program, a medical examination is strongly recommended to ensure there are no contraindications to the intense effort found in trail running. An exercise test is also recommended for participants over the age of 40.

Electricity
The current used is 220 Volts. Same sockets as in mainland France.
