The program

Day by day

Day of arrival

Day 1: Meet at 9:30am in Abriès, on the square at the foot of the “Les Balcons du Viso” residence, located on the central street.
...
Presentation of the week.
After a short transfer to the village of Echalp, we take the upper Guil valley, observe “The collapsed rock” and walk to the Viso refuge. During the day, from belvedere to belvedere, the first visions of the Viso follow one another, playing hide and seek with the Italian nebia.
Night at the Viso refuge.
Walking time: 4h30. Height difference: + 760 m

During your stay

D2: After walking along Lake Lestio, we go up to Col Valante, gateway to Italy. Impressive vision of the big faces of the Viso.
...
We strongly recommend the Joanne Point variant, which we will do without a bag, above the collar. From this point, almost the entire Viso chain appears. The needles, guardians of its tranquility, surround it on all sides, but it respects them from the height of its almost 3900 m. Descent to the Valante refuge (2444m), then the Bagnour refuge (2019 m) where we will spend the night.
Walking time: 6 hours 30 minutes/Height difference: + 550 m/- 1000 m

Day 3: We are in Italy for three full days. Sometimes nebbia, this mysterious mist, softens summer temperatures. This morning, we are gradually going up through the woods, the mountain pastures, then the mineral universe dotted with lakes specific to Viso. We pass the Chiaffredo Pass then Gallarino (2740m) and reach the Alpetto refuge (2272m) hidden in a small mountain pasture, near Lake Alpetto.
Night in a shelter.
Walking time: 6 hours. Height difference: + 800 m/- 600 m

Day 4: This short day will take us to the foot of the main faces of Viso, in a very high mountain mineral atmosphere. It feels very small. The lakes soften this rocky universe with varied colors. This itinerary allows for a few options (without a bag). From the Giacoletti refuge where we arrive at mid-day, we can climb the Corridor du Porc and the Pointe Udine at more than 3000m. Contemplatives will be able to bask in the middle of a magnificent show.
Night at the shelter.
Walking time: 5 hours (+ 2 hours optional). Height difference: + 900 m/- 400 m

D5: We follow the postman's path. The Po plain opens up in front of us. We are taking the salt route from ancient times. The Traversette Tunnel saw commercial caravans pass by in the 17th century. We set foot on French soil for 1 hour before reaching Col Sellière (2834m). We leave the beaten path, if you like tranquility, this is the place to stay. Only chamois disturb the silence! We go down to Jervis in the upper Val Pellice, refuge of the Waldensians during the Wars of Religion. Men remain marked by this period and it is on the basis of solidarity that they welcome you.
Night in a shelter.
Walking time: 7 hours Height difference: + 800 m/- 1600 m

Last day

J6: It is through a pass, formerly frequented by peddlers, merchants of all kinds, that we reach France. Here, the relationships between the two sides were very important.
...
Formerly, it was only one country, ahead of history: the Escartons Republic. From the top of Col Lacroix (2300m), it is with a historic page that we end this raid.
Walking time: 5 hours. Height difference: + 570 m/- 600 m
Return to Abriès around 2 pm where we separate.
Return to Mont-Dauphin by shuttle or car.
