This itinerant equestrian hike in total autonomy follows the itinerary that the Scottish writer took with his donkey Modestine in 1878, starting from Monastier sur Gazeille in Haute-Loire to arrive at Saint-Jean-du-Gard in the Gard, crossing all of Lozère and the territory of the Camisard War.
In 7 days, we will join this itinerary steeped in history from Fouzhillac which is located after Langogne and we will go into the Tarn Gorges through the Goulet Mountain, Mont-Lozère, the Cévennes, the Cévennes, the Gorges du Tarn and back through the counter forts of Mont-Lozère and the Plateau du Roy.
Fabulous and constantly changing landscapes await you throughout your journey, which will remain engraved in your hiking memory for a long time... With your guide, you will go from cottages to hotels, with your personal belongings carried on your horse.

The program

Day by day

Day of arrival

Reception on Saturday at the equestrian inn “Le Relais de Palhères” in Rocles, between 5 pm and 7 pm.
Night in a collective room at the inn Le Relais de Palhères.

During your stay

D2: Departure of the hike in the direction of Chasserades, passing through the Mercoire Forest, the Sources of the Allier at the top of Moure de la Gardille, to finish we will start the descent to the Hotel des Sources where we will enjoy a good meal.

D3: Direction the Mirandols Viaduct, to then go up to the Goulet Mountain with a breathtaking view of the Plateau du Roy, galloping tracks and the smells of Pines and Bruyères.
The descent to the village of Bleymard offers us a panoramic view of the Mt Lozère chain. A good climb awaits our riders then to arrive on the Mont Lozère plateau, where we will stop at the Hotel Le Refuge.

Day 4: We will follow the Pic de Finiels at an altitude of 1700m and dive on mythical villages. Salary, the Hospital, the Mas Camargue. We will pass at the foot of the Sources du Tarn which we will cross at the Bois du Commandeur on the Tarn Bridge (Roman remains). The Aubaret Farm will be another curiosity.
We will arrive in Saint Maurice de Ventalon, just next to the Draille du Languedoc (sheep transhumance).
Dormitory and rooms to share, meals at the guest table.

D5: We will take the Bouges trail with the magnificent Ventalon viewpoint, and cross the Bouges pass and the Sapet pass. Then descent to the village of Vernedes.
Night in a refuge in Chabrières, meal at the table d'hote.

Day 6: Direction Les Bondons then La Fage, Etang de Barrandon, Serre des Contrasts with Maître Vidal's Cross. Then descent to Bagnols les Bains via the Col de la Loubière.
Dormitory and shared rooms, meals at the hotel restaurant.

D7: We leave the Lot Valley not far from its source in the small village of Cubières on the southern slope of the Goulet Mountain. Climbing on the Bois des Combes du Crouzet trail, village of Larzalier, and we will arrive on the Causse de Montbel, we will hike not far from Châteauneuf de randon where Sieur Dugesclun rest in peace, and finally back to the Relais de Palhères. Night in collective rooms and meals at the inn.

The course of this program is indicative. It may undergo modifications or adjustments, depending on technical criteria, safety requirements or the climatic conditions of the moment. In this case, only those responsible for UCPA supervision are authorized to take the necessary decision (s).

Last day

Last breakfast with the group, last caress to the horses.
End of the internship. Possibility to leave on Friday evening or after breakfast on Saturday.

For 5 days you will take your personal belongings (clothes) in the bags provided by the center and carried by your horse.There will be no management vehicle that will follow you.It is the return to the basics of horseback riding “nature in freedom”

Advice in terms of personal business: the hike takes place in the mountains, at an average altitude of 1000 m. Bring both light and warm clothing that is comfortable to ride. Don't forget rain gear, jacket and overpants, no poncho.Sun protection, water bottle, scarf, small personal pharmacy, loungewear, microfiber towel, toiletries in small packages, a pair of comfortable walking shoes for riding, a pair of comfortable walking shoes for riding, mini chaps, horse pants, spray, flashlight, wipes.
To sleep, bring a sheet bag, and your compact sleeping bag t° comfort 5° minimum.
