Stromboli
On the slopes of the most active volcano in Europe
Stromboli is an island of volcanic origin that is part of the Aeolian Islands. Known for its explosive volcano of the same name, which culminates at 924 meters above sea level and descends to more than 2000 meters below sea level, the island of Stromboli is crowned by an almost permanent gas plume. Stromboli is considered to be the most active volcano in Europe, which has not prevented humans from living there since ancient times. The main village of Stromboli is located in the north-east of the island. Another area is inhabited, Ginostra, but its access can only be made by sea or by a path from the summit.
