Pure sport/
Climbing the calanques is a unique experience, whether you are a beginner or an expert. Come and discover the beauty and variety of the sites and benefit from the advice of passionate instructors. The Sormiou Calanque is the ideal place for climbing. From the slab to the vertical walls to the overhangs, the site is accessible to everyone, regardless of your level. Every day different spots, sites and routes chosen to help you progress technically.
As the sports village is located in the heart of the Calanques National Park, you will be as close as possible to the practice sites. You will leave directly on foot, ready for adventure for a maximum of 20 to 40 minutes of walking. Our climbing instructors present have a detailed knowledge of practice sites and climbing routes.
They will choose the spot of the day and will give you technical advice so that everyone can make real progress. You will learn rope manipulation, to make you autonomous and able to practice this activity safely at the end of the stay. You will climb with a pinwheel, that is to say with the rope already fixed at the top of the track. But you will also learn to climb at the head, that is to say to go and hang the rope yourself at the top of the route. This coaching will allow you to gain self-confidence and to surpass yourself. Here you will find 30 climbing sectors suitable for beginners and 6C climbers alike. They offer all possible orientations, allowing us to climb in the shade or in the sun, with or without wind, over the water or up the hill.

The program

Day by day

Day of arrival

Day 1 - Opening of the sports village at 10:30am.

After a welcome coffee and some administrative formalities, you will move into the dormitories, then we will meet at 12 pm for a short welcome note, the presentation of the team and the various groups.
...
At 2 pm you will have an appointment with your instructor to equip yourself with climbing equipment and set off on an activity.
The aim of this half-day is to get to know the group, to discover or confirm their level in cliff climbing. This will be an opportunity to review your knowledge of rope handling and your expectations for this climbing week. Thanks to this half-day we will be able to establish the program for the week together, so that everyone progresses and has fun.
We will return at the end of the afternoon to meet up, just before dinner, for a friendly aperitif and to get to know everyone.

No shuttle organized directly from the SNCF station. For those arriving from the Marseille Saint-Charles SNCF station, you have an appointment with the UCPA on Monday between 10:30 and 11:30 at the Sormiou-Jarre bus stop.
For the others, you have an appointment directly at the sports village between 10:30 and 11:30am.

During your stay

Throughout the week, you will climb continuously during the day with a picnic break at the practice site.
The aim will be to progress in your mastery of difficulty, emptiness, string manipulations and to combine as much length as possible.

...
Day 2 - En route to the cliffs of the Cirque de Tiragne. After an approach walk of about 20 minutes to the Col de Luï d'Aï, then crossing a small via corda, you will spend the day cut off from the world, with the island of Riou and all the immensity of the Mediterranean as a landscape. Down there, you will find routes of 10 to 30 meters in length, at all levels. It will be the perfect place to learn to climb at the top.

Day 3 - After a short drive to get to the foot of the Marseilleveyre massif, and a 20-minute walk, you have arrived on the cliff of Pastré. There you will find a shady site, hidden at the top of a pine forest. Like a real balcony over the city of Marseille, it will offer you an incredible view of the whole city, the Frioul Islands and the Blue Coast. Lulled by the song of the cicadas, you will climb a 15-meter cliff that is more typical of a slab or wall. It will be the perfect site to progress technically in foot pose.

Day 4 - After a short drive in a vehicle to get to the Morgiou calanque, and a short walk of 20 minutes, you reach the cliff of the Coastal Shelter. There, with a privileged view of Cap Morgiou, the sea and the small fishing port, you will climb into very well equipped and protected routes, ideal for achieving your best performances.

Last day

Day 5 - Last day to improve your climbing skills! After having paid for any purchases (bar, shop) and freed the dorms from your belongings
...
You will leave directly from the sports village on foot for a day of climbing on the cliff of the Lost Arch.
After 40 minutes of walking we will reach this place that is still wild and preserved from the crowds. On site, you will climb routes 10 to 40 meters high, on a compact and high quality rock. We will leave this cliff around 15:00 for an expected arrival at the sports village at 16:00.

Then the time to return the borrowed sports equipment, to share a final debrief with the group, it will be time to leave.
For those who will go to the Marseille Saint-Charles SNCF station, a UCPA vehicle will take you back between 16:30 and 17:00 to the Sormiou-Jarre bus stop.
You can schedule a return train from 18:30.

For others, you can enjoy the sports village until 6 pm, when it closes.

The course of this program is indicative.
It may undergo modifications or adjustments, depending on technical criteria, safety requirements or the climatic conditions of the moment. In this case, only those responsible for UCPA supervision are authorized to take the necessary decision (s).
It can also be adapted according to the technical and physical level of the participants. For information the activity is not mandatory, you can if you wish to enjoy the center and the beach. For information the activity is not mandatory, you can if you wish to enjoy the center and the beach.

Information note
The purpose of this note is to present to you the form of mountaineering practice that we offer during our various mountaineering or climbing courses in high mountains.

...
UCPA is a mountaineering and high mountain school. Our objective is to bring participants to a controlled and responsible practice of mountaineering, each at their own level, during and after the course.

To do this, our courses are organized around the learning of techniques and principles of evolution in mountains.
This approach involves evolutions in “autonomous” teams where the trainee-participants implement safety techniques, learned beforehand. The rope then evolves without being systematically connected to a guide by a rope. These evolutions into “autonomous” teams are carried out under the guidance of the guide, which determines the modalities of these evolutions according to the level of the trainee-participants and the conditions in the field.

The trainee-participant in a mountaineering or high-mountain climbing course undertakes to accept the form of instruction offered and certifies having read this information.
