SPOT
Machu Picchu
The sacred city of the Incas
The archaeological site of Machu-Picchu is located in the east of the Andes Cordillera, at the edge of the Amazon rainforest, in Peru. An ancient Inca city dating from the 15th century, Machu-Picchu actually extends on a ridge line between two peaks: Huayna Picchu (“young mountain”) and Machu-Picchu (“old mountain”). There are 172 buildings, spread over an area 530 meters long and 200 meters wide. To limit the overcrowding of the site and the risk of excessive erosion, the Peruvian government decided to regulate access to the “Inca Trail”, one of the classic routes to Machu-Picchu. This hiking trail crosses remarkable Inca structures: tunnels, paved paths, stairs, not to mention the magnificent Sun Gate that overlooks the ruins.

Important information
The Chachani (6070 m) is sometimes considered to be the “easiest 6,000 in the world”: no cracked glacier, an easy approach, a high starting point 'But this “easy” ascent imperatively requires good acclimatization, which is necessarily gradual.
No technical difficulty, except for the high altitude and the sometimes loose terrain (volcanic ash). Depending on mountain conditions, a crossing may require the use of crampons (hard snow or ice). While it is not necessary to have practiced mountaineering before, you will be more comfortable if you have already set up camp during an awareness course at a UCPA center in the French Alps.
This program is available to anyone in very good physical condition who is able to walk 6 to 8 hours a day, with a light backpack.
Personal belongings, collective equipment and supplies are carried by pack horses and mules that we meet every evening. You will therefore only carry in a backpack (about 35 liters) the essentials of the day (lunch, sweater, jacket, camera, i.e. 5 or 6 kg).
Altitude: It is absolutely essential to check that you have no contraindications to a prolonged stay at high altitude (between 4000 and 6000 m). Do not leave without consulting a doctor, especially if your health condition requires regular treatment.
To prepare for this ascent, we recommend that you follow a 4-day course “Break initiation expedition and altitude trek”, organized at the UCPA center in Chamonix in the Mont-Blanc massif. On the program, technical sessions (cramponing, mooring, safety maneuvers) and bivouac in a tent on the glacier.
Electricity
Provide a specific adapter. The voltage is 110/220 V 50/60Hz (the devices adapt automatically). Flat 2-pin sockets, identical to those used in the United States.
NB: you are going to participate in an “adventure” program, a travel formula that is totally different from conventional tourist circuits: the discomfort, the unexpected, the health conditions, which we may encounter, suppose everyone has a good spirit of tolerance and a taste for adventure.
Through your active and positive participation, you will contribute to the cohesion and good understanding of the group, which is a guarantee of the success of the trip.
