A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE TRIP
Nature escapeGuaranteed departure from 5 participants
Hiking (6 days)
The island of Tenerife located in the heart of the Canary archipelago is the largest of the islands, but also the one with the highest peak: the Pico del Teide which culminates at 3718 meters. In fact, Mount Teide is the highest peak in all of Spain.
Tenerife, due to its size and the different levels of vegetation that can be found there, is also the Canary Island that offers the greatest diversity of landscapes and biotopes, a true paradise for hiking. The ascent of Pico Viiejo (3134 meters) from where the view of the summit of Teide is magnificent will be the highlight of this beautiful week of hiking. But you will also keep unforgettable images of the subtropical primary forest, or of the steep relief of the Teno Massif shaped by erosion over several million years.
Accommodation: pensions in Villaflor (rooms for 2 or 3), apart hotel in the South (basic comfort)
Carrying: light bag (4-5 kg) for the day's things.

Day 2: Loop in the Chinyero Volcano Nature Reserve
Located near Pico del Teide, the Chinyero volcano is a volcano whose last eruption dates from 1909.
Located near Pico del Teide, the Chinyero volcano is a volcano whose last eruption dates from 1909.
It dominates the landscape of the nature reserve. This hike takes you through very varied landscapes. We walk through a mixture of black sand, ash, black rock and cross a Canarian pine forest. This first loop hike is a great way to get started.
Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Vilaflor.
Approximately 5 hours of walking, altitude difference + 450m/-450m.
Day 3: Vilaflor/El Paisaje Lunar
Loop hike starting from the village in the direction of the north-east. We take steep paths that lead us to colossal fairy chimneys rising up to the sky.
This “lunar” landscape (“lunar landscape”) is aptly named, and reminds us that volcanic explosions and large ash deposits shaped this landscape a long time ago. Picnic lunch at an altitude of about 2000m, then descent through the pine forest of Barranco del Salto Blanco.
Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Vilaflor
Approximately 6 hours of walking, altitude difference +800m/-800m.
Day 4: Summit of Pico Viejo (3135 meters)
Early departure to enjoy the sunrise over the volcano. The surrounding landscape is unforgettable: the island turns red as soon as the sun comes up, and the view is clear towards La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro. The observation of the shadow cone formed by the volcano at sunrise if the view is clear is spectacular. The ascent begins on the western slope of Teide at an altitude of 2100 meters to reach the edge of the Pico Viejo caldera at an altitude of 3135 meters above sea level. The Pico Viejo crater is gigantic and very wild (unlike Pico Del Teide which is too busy because it is possible to go up there by cable car... reason why we prefer Pico Viejo). Descent along the southern slope through the “Roques de Garcia”, a set of volcanic needles rising up to the sky. It's a fairly technical hiking day, and it's the most sporty of the week. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Villaflor.
7 hours of walking, altitude difference +1000m/-1000m.
Day 5: The Teno peaks
Transfer to a completely different region of the island, in the Teno massif located in the north-west (1 hour drive), another very old part of the island. The first eruptions on Tenerife occurred here seven million years ago, and erosion has had time to profoundly change the landscape by creating gorges surrounded by sharp peaks. This hike in the direction of the ridges gives the opportunity to observe slopes whose humidity and vegetation are very different. Dinner at the restaurant. Accommodation for 3 nights in a hotel in the south.
5 hours of walking, altitude difference +400m/-450m.
Day 6: Erjos/Los Silos
Transfer by vehicle (about 1 hour drive) to Erjos, a typical Canarian village located at an altitude of 1000m. We start our hike in a bay forest (Lauri Silva), then cross an area of ferns and heathers (Erica Arborea forest), then start a big descent of about 800m of negative altitude with impressive views of the valleys covered with vegetation to arrive at the village of Los Silos. We then take a bus to the picturesque village of Garachico, and if the weather and conditions permit we can swim in natural pools. Dinner at the restaurant, night in the same accommodation as the day before.
5 hours of walking, altitude difference -800m
Day 7: Loop hike: Cruz del Carmen - Chinamada
Transfer by vehicle to Anaga, in the north-east of the island (1h15 drive). The small chapel of Cruz del Carmen is located at the entrance of the Anaga Rural Park. We start the descent through the beautiful mountain forest that dominates the entire park. At the level of the hamlet of Casas del Rio, we leave the humid forest to cross terraced cultivation areas. Chinamada finally appears at the end of the path, the partially troglodyte village is located on an isolated peak in Anaga. Return to our vehicle by a different path. Return to our accommodation, free dinner.
5 hours of walking, altitude difference -450m/+450m.

It is not a continuous trek, which is difficult to do in Tenerife, but a series of day hikes, with short trips in minibuses to reach the starting point of these hikes.
The terrain is very varied: good paths, steeper paths, sometimes a bit aerial, in forest in dense vegetation, and “barrancos” (ravines). 4 to 5 hours of walking per day, interspersed with breaks, with possible swimming at certain stages.
The relief of Tenerife is important in the areas where we hike, the slopes are often steep and the differences in altitude are marked, but the carrying is limited: necessary things for the day and a little food and water (4 to 5 kg maximum).
Electricity
The current used is 220 volts; same sockets as in France.
