Séjours colos 6-17 ans

At UCPA, children discover skimboarding through “flat”, one of the two practices of this discipline: it is practiced at low tide and generally with simple wooden boards. The waves, which recede slowly, leave large areas of flat sand (hence the name “flat”) covered by a thin layer of water (less than 1 cm, to slide well). The rider throws his board in front of him, catches it while running and jumps on it. From there, he can slide straight or perform tricks, most often inspired by skateboarding. It is the practice for beginners, very easy to learn skimboarding, and does not require a sophisticated board.

The shore break attack (breaking, wave that breaks on the beach) is a more committed version of this sport. It requires a more experienced technique. In this case, the skimboarder runs, board in hand, towards the wave that is about to unwind. In his tracks, he throws his board on the sand covered with a film of water left by the wave that retreats to the edge, and immediately after he climbs on it, in full speed, and taking advantage of the inertia of the movement, continues to slide with it on the deeper water in order to hit the next wave by performing figures very similar to those of surfing.

À PROPOS DE L'ACTIVITÉ

Skimboarding is a sliding sport that consists of sliding on a fairly thin board, on the film of water that the wave leaves when it withdraws from the beach. The name comes from the English verb to skim (to skim, skim, brush) and from board (board), you run to jump on the board that you glide at the water's edge.
